Killer Milk: The Golden Bullet

Two 25ml samples of human breast milk pumped from the same woman, at the same time to illustrate what human breast milk looks like, and how human breast milk can vary. The left hand sample is Foremilk. Foremilk has a higher water content and a lower fat content to satisfy thirst. The right hand sample is Hindmilk. Hindmilk has a lower water content and a higher fat content to satisfy hunger. Although the names may suggest otherwise, hindmilk and foremilk do not flow one after the other respectively. As breastmilk is made continuously including and during the feed itself, the milk is constantly switching between Foremilk and Hindmilk

UP DATES are added to the bottom of the page as I find more links.

There have been a lot of studies done on breast milk. Most of it has been done while considering the health of babies. This article is different. Studies are now being done on many components of breast milk because they kill all sorts of adult ills. The problem is… getting them to adults. So they are working on that. In the meantime, some of you lucky bosom lovers out there are benefiting in ways you probably don’t know of.

I noticed that stomach acid actually activates some of these properties. I thought that was interesting.

This research article is easier to read than some. In my opinion It is worth making your way through the whole thing. I will make a link so you can come back to it without having to search through my posts.

Milk therapy: breast-milk compounds could be a tonic for adult ills.

I found this following post in a breast feeding mothers blog. I copied it because the mom certainly did her research. It is, in my opinion, worth reading the entire original article and the comments. Other positive experiences with breastmilk for ill patients were given in the comments.

The component of breastmilk that kills cancer cells is called alpha lactalbumin (or Human Alphalactalbumin Made Lethal to Tumor cells, or HAMLET – cute, huh?). I can’t find anything on what happens during pasteurization to alphalactalbumin specifically, but it’s a protein, and many of the proteins do survive pasteurization, so I wouldn’t assume that it’s not active.

I just went to a presentation on this topic and lots of important immunological components of milk survive pasteurization – like the fatty acids, some immunoglobulins, bifidus factor, oligosaccharides, etc. The live cells, like the leukocytes, do die, but so many critical components are there in the same % or close to it.

As far as effectiveness goes, researchers think that HAMLET is the reason why breastfed babies have lower rates of childhood cancers, and some think that it’s related to the lowered risk of breast cancer in moms, too.

So, if there is enough to go around (I know that this is the issue), I think it’s a great idea for cancer patients. I actually know someone who was in a prostate cancer trial using breastmilk as a therapy.

And the pharmaceutical companies are only a few steps behind. Saw an article last year on manufactured alphalactalbumin being used in a bladder cancer trial…

Breast milk used in cancer fight

A Sunshine Coast mother believes the breast milk she has fed her gravely ill nine-year-old daughter since October has contributed toward substantial improvement in the youngster’s health.

The girl was given a bleak prognosis by doctors in October when they found she had a life-threatening tumour….

An examination of the child in Brisbane on Friday showed that there had been a significant turnaround in the girl’s condition.

She is now looking at going back to school.

The breast milk was used with other alternative and traditional treatments.

The girl would require ongoing check-ups, but “the doctor was very happy with her results”.

One of many comments:

I understand that there are no published results yet for a HAMLET treatment for brain tumor in humans. The previous experiment was for a human brain tumor implanted into an experimental rat, and HAMLET shrank the tumor and killed the cancer cells and did not hurt the surrounding normal brain cells (Fischer et al. 2004. …HAMLET Kills Human Glioblastoma Cells in Brain Xenografts… Cancer Research. 64:2105-2112).

However, there have been 2 other trials of HAMLET on real humans – for bladder cancer (Mossberg et al. 2007. Bladder Cancers Respond to… HAMLET… International Journal of Cancer. 121:1352-1359) and skin papillomas (Gustafsson et al. 2004. Treatment of Skin Papillomas… The New England Journal of Medicine. 350:2663-2672). In both trials, HAMLET seemed to do a lovely job of shrinking tumor/lesions, killing cancer cells, and not hurting normal cells at all.

Taking a breath isn’t taken for granted in the Bauer house.

“I was dying. I was literally dying, and I knew it,” said Dr. Donn Bauer.

Bauer had a cancerous tumor in his right vocal chord, severe enough to cut off his airway. Surgeons removed it, leaving him with a hole in his neck to talk and breathe.

“So I was bent on getting better. No matter what,” he said, wiping his eyes.

But he didn’t get better.  Bauer lost 35 pounds in one week, and his diabetes made recovery almost impossible.

Then he discovered a new remedy: a mother’s breast milk.

“It’s just a boost of energy, and it’s not like drinking an energy drink or a couple cups of quick coffee, but a slow process of feeling good,” he said.

“It’s gold. It is incredible liquid,” said Amy Vickers with the Mother’s Milk Bank of Fort Worth. …

Dr. June Meymand runs a cancer center and says breast milk protects her patients’ healthy cells, while killing the cancer at same time.

“What actually causes the damage to the body will be carried out through the intestine and will not become active,” she said.

It worked for Bauer. He’s now cancer-free.

“If I end up going I end up going, but I came into this world screaming and fighting and that’s exactly how I’m going out,” Bauer said.

He believes his miracle is thanks to a mother’s milk.

I’m of the opinion that a lot of solutions were put right in front of us in this world. I think we often ignore the obvious just because it’s not what we expect.
